Growing up, I was immersed in the world of teen magazines like Cosmo Girl, YM, and Seventeen Magazine. These publications were filled with the latest trends, beauty tips, and relationship advice that defined my teenage years. As I matured and entered college, I naturally gravitated toward more “adult” publications like Cosmopolitan. I even bought Sex and the Single Girl, thinking it would guide me on how to live the glamorous, independent life displayed in its pages.
I embraced the "single girl lifestyle"—going out to clubs, dressing in stunning outfits, and dating, lots of dating. And let me tell you, it was an absolute disaster. The dating whirlwind left me feeling lost and unfulfilled. The truth is, I was trying to live a lifestyle that didn’t align with the woman I truly wanted to become. The world Cosmopolitan portrayed wasn’t the life I desired. As I grew and deepened my understanding of my own femininity, I started looking for a publication that reflected the values I hold dear. That’s when I discovered Evie Magazine.
A Breath of Fresh Air
Founded in February 2019 by husband and wife Gabriel Hugoboom and Brittany Martinez, Evie Magazine was created to provide a much-needed alternative in the world of women’s magazines. Brittany Martinez, the editor-in-chief, had a vision of a magazine that wouldn’t encourage women to simply imitate men or strive for unrealistic versions of "success." Instead, Evie aims to empower women by celebrating femininity, traditional values, and what it means to be a woman in today’s world.
I love Evie Magazine for three main reasons:
Embracing Femininity: Unlike other magazines that push women to blur the lines between male and female roles, Evie encourages us to fully embrace our femininity. It highlights the beauty of being a woman and all the strengths that come with it—compassion, intuition, creativity, and grace. There’s no need to compete with men or deny our feminine nature to be strong or successful.
Celebrating Women As Women: One of the most refreshing aspects of Evie is that it celebrates women for who we are, not as people who need to compete with men. The magazine paints a picture of womanhood that is authentic, grounded, and unapologetically feminine. There’s a place for softness, nurturing, and, yes, even homemaking, without the constant narrative that we should be striving to outdo men in every arena.
Sex Within Marriage: Evie also stands out because of how it handles topics like sex. Rather than encouraging casual flings or hookups, the magazine discusses sex within the sacred context of marriage. This perspective aligns perfectly with my own values. Plus, for those more intimate conversations, Evie offers exclusive online content through a paid subscription, adding a layer of privacy and intentionality to these discussions.
Overall, Evie Magazine feels like a breath of fresh air in a media landscape saturated with messages that no longer resonate with who I am. If you’re a woman who believes in embracing your femininity, traditional values, or if you’re looking for a publication that truly uplifts women without the need for competition, I highly recommend giving Evie Magazine a read.
